Dear Grace Family,
Many of you know we start the new year at Grace with a time of focused prayer and fasting. We believe all we experience, including God’s presence and favor, the fellowship we enjoy together, and the lives being transformed, are a direct result of God’s grace and mercy as we seek to stay on the path He lays out for us. Every year at this time we remind ourselves of our dependence on Him with this verse –
Psalms 127:1 (NIV) Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
The Passion interpretation says – If God’s grace doesn’t help the builders, they will labor in vain to build a house. If God’s mercy doesn’t protect the city, all the sentries will circle it in vain.
God has met us with grace and mercy in a year full of opportunities to depend on Him! We have wrapped the year focusing on the hope God gives us as we turn to Him. Having received so much from Him, we now want to focus our attention on bringing God’s hope to our neighbors, those we know, and the hungry and hurting (physically and spiritually) He brings into our lives.
Here are the areas we want to focus our prayer and fasting on in January and put into action throughout 2021 –
Hope for our neighbors – Colossians 1:27 (TPT) Living within you is the Christ who floods you with the expectation of glory! This mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it!
- Preparation (January 3) – Humble ourselves to gain God’s heart for neighbors (Acts 13:3; Ezra 8:21-23; Psalms 35:13-14; Matthew 23:11 TPT
- Presence (January 10) – Time with Him that we carry His presence to our neighbors (Exodus 33:15-16; Mt 28:19-20; 1 Chronicle 16:11)
- Purposefulness (January 17) – Choose to reach our neighbors in a way that they see God’s kindness and goodness (Romans 2:4; 1 Peter 3:9; Is 58:6-7; Psalm 34:8)
- Power (January 24) – Recognize that only God can change lives so we need to have faith that He will move in power to transform our neighbors (1 Corinthians 2:4-5; 1 Corinthians 3:6-7)
I am asking you to join us as we set aside the month of January as a time of prayer and fasting to gain God’s heart and purposes for 2021. I hope you will fast with us January 4 – 6, as well as other times, and then gather with us Wednesday, January 6 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for Immerse, a time of celebrating in worship and prayer.
Thank you for your faithful pursuit of God and fellowship together in the Holy Spirit!
