Weekly Update

What We Learned About:

This week, we learned about the Helmet of Salvation and why it is important to guard our minds with the truth of what Jesus has done for us.

Just as a helmet protects a soldier’s head, the Helmet of Salvation reminds us of the salvation we have through Jesus. When we put our faith in Him, we receive forgiveness, are made right with God, and become part of His family.

Our thoughts matter! Sometimes we believe lies about ourselves, such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’ll never change,” or “God could never forgive me.” But just because a thought comes into our minds doesn’t mean it’s true.

God calls us to take our thoughts captive by recognizing thoughts that don’t line up with His truth and replacing those lies with what His Word says. We can remember that we are loved by God, created with purpose, and forgiven through Jesus.

Questions to ask your child…

Use these questions on your car ride home or throughout the week!

  1. What does it mean to take a thought captive?
  2. What is one lie someone might believe about themselves, and what does God say instead?

Throughout the week, help your child practice recognizing unhelpful thoughts and responding with God’s truth.

For example:

1) Lie: “God could never forgive me.”

Truth: Through Jesus, I can receive forgiveness. (Romans 8:1)

2) Lie: “I’ll never change.”

Truth: In Christ, I am a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

3) Lie: “I’ll never be good enough.”

Truth: I am God’s workmanship, created to do GOOD WORKS. (Ephesians 2:10)

Memory Verse

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7
