“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.”
– Acts 2:1
Fasting Day 3: Community

After His death on the cross and resurrection back to life, Jesus spent 40 days with His disciples, teaching them about the Kingdom of God. But then, something happened… He left. And His last instructions were clear, “wait for the Holy Spirit because you cannot do what I’ve called you to do without Him” (my paraphrase, but pretty close!) So, in obedience, they gathered together in the same place. All together in one room. Waiting. Praying. Seeking. Worshipping. Asking. Contemplating. Consecrating themselves…and then it happened. The Holy Spirit filled their room on Pentecost, and the world has not been the same since! The world was turned upside down as they burst out of that room filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Did you catch what happened? They gathered together as a community in obedience and waited for the Holy Spirit, and then they were sent out into their community to change the world!

They were changed so the world could be changed.

Our consecration to God combined with Him forming Christ in us results in the community around us being impacted. As Robert Mulholland Jr. states, “We are formed into the image of Christ for the sake of others.” As you fast and pray today, turn your attention outward. Who do you know that needs to know God? Where outside the church is the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart?

Tonight, we gather for Immerse: A Night of Prayer and Worship. Tonight, the Holy Spirit will fall. Tonight, your city could be impacted. Don’t miss the chance to change the world!
